Nothing But the Blood Tee

Since Adam, humans have been obsessed with spiritual cleansing. Atonement. Written into our subconscious, at the pit of our very nature, is the need for it.

Scripture says, “the law is written on our hearts.”
Romans 2:15

It makes sense. We know something is disconnected, and even our wicked hearts feel it.

Every major religion reflects it.

Muslims perform wudu or ghusl. Hindus bathe in sacred rivers. Buddhists seek to cleanse karma before sacred acts.

The instinct is universal. Even agnostics and atheists follow their own moral tradition of washing off bad behavior.

I clean myself.
I prepare myself.
I make myself worthy.

Get dirty.
Wash, rinse, repeat.

But Christianity teaches us differently.

“All our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment.”
Isaiah 64:6

The problem is not surface impurity. It is sin. And sin does not wash off. It must be atoned for.

“Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.”
Hebrews 9:22

Only God can make man right before God.

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8

We cannot cleanse ourselves.
We cannot improve ourselves.
We cannot atone for ourselves.

Only Christ.

Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
